Our Approach
Experience
The mission of our practice is to provide effective psychological services, period. Jim is a registered Psychologist with 12 years experience with everything from major mental illness to general life stressors. Working Jim means you can expect professional, empirically-supported therapy and assessment services through a supportive, caring, and trauma-informed lens. If you’ve tried therapy in the past and felt you did not get the tools you needed to get better, Jim’s approach may be right for you.
Tailored
In your first session, Jim will work with you to learn about the issues you’re struggling with and how they’re impacting you as a unique individual. There is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy, so collaboratively creating a treatment plan with input from you is the very first step. You’ll be given the chance to ask questions about how therapy will work and how we can move forward together.
Culturally-informed
Jim has received extensive training in working with individuals from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds identities. Culture can be thought of as tiles in a mosaic: people can share a few parts of each other’s culture, but how those parts are arranged is uniquely individual to each of us. Jim has worked with members of the LGBTQ2S+ community as well as members of marginalized and/or minority groups.
Interdisciplinary
For those individuals struggling with especially challenging concerns, Jim advocates for a team-based approach. This means taking the time to connect with your existing healthcare professionals, such as your physician or psychiatrist, to ensure that services and care are being appropriately coordinated. (Jim only offers this with your explicit consent). If you’re not currently connected with other professionals, Jim can provide assistance with this as well.
Confidential
Confidentiality is a foundational requirement of therapy. Jim prides himself on holding this as a primary tenant of his services. Discussing the limits to confidentiality is the first thing we will review when we begin working together, and time will be given to discuss and review any questions you might have about this.
Collaborative
Many individuals Jim has worked with have already had negative experiences trying to get help. “I did not feel heard”, “They just didn’t get it” and “I never felt like I had a voice” are common complaints. Jim’s approach aims to address these issues by taking a collaborative approach. Jim firmly believes that the best way forward is together, and that by hearing YOU and creating strategies as a team, we can find the most effective path towards long-term change.
