Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, I am setup to work with WSIB (Telus HEALTH), Sunlife (Lumino), and Medavie Blue Cross.

  • After a review of the limits to confidentiality for speaking with a mental health professional, our initial contact will involve me spending time learning about you as an individual and the presenting concern you’re looking to discuss in therapy. We will review your background and examine how your concerns are impacting you in your day-to-day life. Finally, we will discuss different options for treatment, and create a plan together for moving forward.

  • My approach to working with clients is best described as being collaborative, strengths-based, and genuine. While I do pull from more than one theoretical orientation (CBT, DBT, Trauma-informed lenses), my orientation is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This type of therapy aims to develop new strategies to help clients respond more effectively to things like unwanted or "negative" thoughts or feelings; with the long term goal of helping my clients create rich, full, meaningful lives. There is evidence for this type of treatment being supported for use with a wide variety of presenting concerns.

  • My fee for a 60-minute session of psychotherapy is $250, and I do offer a sliding scale for those in financial need. The cost of an assessment can vary, and depends on the nature and complexity of the presenting issue. I encourage you to consult with your insurance plans to explore coverage for the services of a psychologist, as most plans do provide some level of coverage. I do not directly bill insurance companies. Please contact me directly if you have any concerns (info@jimsalmonpsych.com).

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit stops me from offering that time to others who may be in need of services. As such, I require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee.

  • *I am currently exploring options for office space to provide in-person services!

I currently offer services virtually over a secure, PHIPA-compliant platform that ensures the safety of your personal health information. My experience providing services virtually is that this affords my clients the flexibility of speaking to me from the comfort of their own homes, and also allows me the opportunity to offer accessible services to anyone in my area of coverage (Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Nova Scotia).

  • Only for in-person services. I can offer virtual services to anyone in Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.

I hold registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario which permits me to provide psychological services to individuals located in Ontario. I can offer services to individuals outside of Ontario if their jurisdiction doesn't control the practice of psychology or if they recognize my credentials. You can contact me if you have any questions.

  • This is dependent on a number of factors, including your presenting concerns and personal goals for treatment. My approach is to collaborate with you on a plan for alleviating your suffering as swiftly as possible. It is a personal goal for me in a first session to give my clients tools or strategies they can start using immediately in order to start providing relief and to begin pursuing meaningful changes in your life.
